“Forward and Backward” is a versatile tennis drill for two to four players designed to improve rhythm, ball control and technical adaptability. The goal is to rally cooperatively while continuously changing the distance between the players in a controlled rhythm. Players learn to adjust their technique depending on the distance to the opponent. At shorter distances, they use a compact backswing with minimal follow-through, while larger distances require a longer backswing and a full follow-through.

The first phase of the game form is played as a controlled warm-up to help players develop the correct timing and technical execution. Afterwards, the drill progresses into a competitive game format where points are played out. This game form is especially effective for developing players’ differentiation skills and their ability to adapt technique to changing game situations.
