The correct stroke position is essential for the forehand and backhand groundstrokes. The closed stance is especially recommended when you have to move away from the ball or work into the field. The closed stroke position is played less often on the forehand than on the backhand. This is mainly because the player on the backhand side cannot rotate back as far with an open stance. Therefore, on the backhand side, it is often a matter of strength. In top tennis, however, the open stance is also frequently used on the backhand.
