In this second part of the drop shot series, I demonstrate two different training sessions — one with a junior player and one with a senior player. The goal is to show how the drop shot can be taught effectively depending on the player’s level and learning objectives.

During the junior session, we progress step by step from basic acquisition drills to more advanced application exercises. We start by developing a good feel for the ball and the technique required to execute a drop shot. From there, the player learns how to apply the drop shot in different situations, for example following a volley or during specific rally scenarios. The exercises gradually increase in complexity — moving from controlled feeds to tactical variations and finally to game-like situations where the drop shot becomes a strategic surprise element. Throughout the drills I provide technical corrections and guidance on when it makes sense to use the drop shot tactically.

In the senior session, we take a slightly simpler approach. The focus is primarily on structured acquisition drills that help the player develop consistency in contact point, racket control, and touch for the short ball. Repetition and clear drill patterns allow the player to build confidence with the shot before applying it in match play.

These two sessions illustrate how the same shot — the drop shot — can be taught in different ways depending on the player profile and training goals.
